Upcoming Film Review Spam!

Recently I’ve been to the cinema way more than I normally do! It can be an expensive past time, especially now that I don’t get student discount. But I really enjoy the whole atmosphere and experience of going to the cinema.

I always like to know what other people think of films, so I thought it might be useful to some people to see reviews of the films I’ve seen.

Over the next four days I’ll be posting one review per day of all the films I’ve been to see over the past couple of months (Legend, Macbeth, The Martian, and Spectre).

Although a few of the films I’ll be reviewing are no longer being shown at the cinema, they are available to pre-order on DVD in time for Christmas. I always find that DVDs are lovely stocking fillers so hopefully at least some of these reviews will inspire some gift ideas!

In Real Life by Cory Doctorow & Jen Wang

This is the second graphic novel I’ve read and I can safely say that I’m hooked! Since finishing In Real Life I have bought four more graphic novels and will most certainly be buying more, as long as my bank balance allows it! Continue reading “In Real Life by Cory Doctorow & Jen Wang”

Harry Potter Studio Tour Haul!

I always love a good haul post myself so I thought it would be good to show what I spent all my money on when I went to the Warner Brothers Studio Tour!

WB Harry Potter Studio Tour

First of all apologies for the lack posts recently! Life got a bit busy with work and getting a new job! It’s all been very exciting, but things seem to be settling down now so I should be able to get into a proper routine!

So on Tuesday 18th August (over a month ago now!) I went to the Harry Potter studios in London with my boyfriend.

I bought a new camera!

I’d been wanting a “proper” camera for a while, and since my last one broke about two years ago, I’ve just been using my iPhone 5. Whilst the quality isn’t too bad for the occasional selfie or Instagram post, I wanted something of a higher quality for when I visit places (I particularly had the Harry Potter studio tour in mind), and also for this blog. When I studied art at school I always really enjoyed taking my own photos for our independent projects. Also I don’t know why, but I find photography really relaxing?

With these things in mind and a bit of background research under my belt, I decided to buy the Fujifilm FinePix S1 Bridge camera. Continue reading “I bought a new camera!”

Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden

Memoirs of a Geisha has been on my radar since I was about twelve. I saw it on the shelf in WHSmiths one day, completely fell in love with the cover, and have wanted to read it ever since! Now I know you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover but I think we’ve all been guilty of it at some point.

Golden’s novel follows the story of a young girl called Chiyo from a fishing village on the coast of the Sea of Japan. Fate brings her to Gion where she is sold to an okiya. One day a chance meeting with a kind stranger along the banks of the Shirakawa stream sets Chiyo (later Sayuri) on her journey to become a geisha and a part of his world.   Continue reading “Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden”

BookTubeAThon is a readathon that is taking place from midnight on the 3rd to the 9th August, so it isn’t too late to join in! For me it is a chance to reduce my tbr pile and drag myself out of a reading slump!

The challenges are:

  1. Read a book with blue on the cover
  2. Read a book by an author with the same first letter of your last name
  3. Read someone else’s favourite book
  4. Read the last book you acquired
  5. Finish a book without letting go of it
  6. Read a book that you really want to read
  7. Read 7 books!

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

I have to say that I don’t know an awful lot on what this book is about, apart from the fact that it is meant to be a kind of Beauty & the Beast retelling with fairies. It has frequently been featured in the booktube community and I wanted to know what all the fuss was about! I’m not too sure when I’ll actually get around to reading it since my tbr pile is already quite large, but I’m looking forward to it nonetheless. Continue reading “Book Haul!”

Sun, sea & sand… all on our doorstep

Nearly every year since I’ve been born my family and I have gone on holiday for a week in either Devon or Cornwall. When I was younger there were definitely a few times when I wished we were going further afield (usually to Disneyland!). But over the years I’ve come to appreciate the beauty that the British coast line has to offer. This time I travelled by train rather than by car with my family because I came a few days later. However, I would say that despite the lengthy travel time (8 hours including waiting at the station), the views are definitely worth it!
